CrossFit Games 2020: What to Expect

natural health tips

CrossFit Games 2021 is nearing and many participants are excited. Along with the usual CrossFit Games competitions like those for men, there will also be events for women. We're all familiar with the Reebok's equipment, the Pegboard contest, and the Cutting system. But what do we know about the womens' competition? Continue reading to find out! CrossFit News Page: Keep an eye out for news updates regarding the competition

Competition for women

The women's competition at the 2021 Crossfit Games began this morning with the swim event. Jonne and Tia Claire Toomey-Orr won the first competition. After maintaining her lead throughout competition, Koski was declared the overall winner. Tall and Eramoo Connell were second and third, each. It was the women's first event in the Games and the women's side was hoping to complete the podium.

The women’s competition is populated with high-level competitors. The field includes nine athletes, including a 19-year-old powerhouse who won the competition in Australia last year. Kara Saunders (Australian athlete) finished second in Australia. She was also eleventh worldwide for 2020. Another rising star is Andrea Nisler, who competed in the team division in 2018 and finished third in the United States and fifteenth overall in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).

Pegboard contest

Pegboard at Crossfit Games 2020 was a first. The Games added it to their summer Olympic program, along with double-unders (dumbbell overhead squats) and pegboard. Toomey-Orr won 30 of the Games' most events, setting a new record. Sager won Event 11 and became the Games' third winner. While there were many tie-breakers, ToomeyOrr's dominance was enough to win the contest.

CrossFit Games are a competition where athletes focus on ten skills that improve their physical fitness: speed, agility, cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility. Pegboard competition tests competitors' grip strength, coordination, and speed. The athletes compete on a scale by holding two wooden pegs between their hands. The competition was fierce, and the athletes were left feeling a sense of accomplishment after completing the Pegboard.

Cutting system

CrossFit Games uses a cutting system to judge individual competition. The cuts are not as severe as those used in past Games but they are still very different. It consists of 15 events so 30 athletes could be reduced after the seventh and eighth events. CrossFit's decision on how to adjust the points distributed after cuts remains a question. The scoring table used in the 2019 games was nearly identical to the one used in 2021, so it's likely that this will continue to be the case.

This year's CrossFit Games field includes 236 athletes. It is the largest ever. The six first events lead to major cuts. The field is reduced to 75 athletes. To determine the top ten, the top 30 athletes compete in a sprint tandem. The top 20 competitors then compete for the remaining six events. Castro's system has been criticized by veterans Games athletes who feel that the cuts are too significant.

Reebok's equipment

Reebok has released new CrossFit Games shoes, clothing and equipment. The new shoes are the Nano X1. They are designed to suit multiple fitness requirements. Reebok claims this shoe is "the shoe that will fit all your fitness needs," but it's more like a regular training shoe. DuPont’s Kevlar material is used to make the upper of this shoe, which promotes breathability as well as durability. The shoe's responsiveness can be enhanced by its firm midsole and RopePro Tech.

CrossFit's sponsorship contract with Reebok is ending at the end of 2020. There will not be a title sponsor for the Games. Reebok has been sponsoring the Games for over a decade and now it is clear that its involvement will be declining. The company won't fund the Games' prize purse, but will continue to make all of the athletic apparel and equipment worn by athletes, including the new Reebok gear. The company will no longer call itself the "Reebok CrossFit Game", as it currently does.

FAQ

Does weightlifting burn more fat than other forms of exercise?

You can lose more fat by weight lifting, but only when you do it in conjunction with cardio.

You should do weightlifting after your cardio workouts to maximize its benefits.

If done correctly, weightlifting can increase your heart rate and oxygen intake which in turn helps you lose weight.

You will not notice any changes in your body composition if you don’t combine it and cardio.

How many calories do I need to eat each day?

It varies from one person to another. On average, between 2000 and 2500 calories a day. It's important to assess your life style, gender, age and height in order to determine how much calories you need.

Which exercise is best for men

It depends on what you're looking for. Cardio workouts are great if you're looking to lose weight. They burn calories much faster than strength-training exercises.

For those who want to gain muscle mass, strength training will be a better option, as it increases your lean body mass.

Both types can be used to improve your overall wellbeing.

If you're looking to get fit fast, I recommend doing HIIT or sprint interval training. This type of training helps you burn fat quickly by increasing your metabolism. It increases your endurance so you can continue training even when tired.
